Understanding R-22 Refrigerant Phase Out and Changes
It was discovered in the 1980’s that refrigerants that contain bromine or chlorine like R-22, used in most home, office and many industry air conditioning units since the 1960’s deplete the Ozone Layer when leaked to the atmosphere. As of 2010 all newly manufactured air conditioners in the United States come with a different refrigerant, R-410A.
